One thing to be aware of is all the bicycle traffic around the city. When I travel I'm a walker and like to explore things on foot. It is a little challenging in Amsterdam to do that as it is pretty easy to get knocked over by a cyclist. No malice intended, but they are everywhere!

Are you looking for recommendations on museums and touristy things?

Whether it's still there or not, I don't know but I stumbled across a place called The Bim Haus which was a kind of musical educational facility. One night there was some amazing jazz playing. Persuaded me to go a second night. That night was a concert given by a bunch of youngsters who had just been doing a two week jazz workshop thing. There were loads of them! (like 7 double basses for a start) Anyway, they put on a show and it was great; what it lacked in finesse it made up for in enthusiasm! Basically, it was the sort of place that might have something amazing on or something perhaps a bit worthy. But you can hear what's going on from the bar so pop in, have a beer and see if it's worth the modest entrance fee. You never know!

Kalverstraat and Van Gogh Museum are a must in Amsterdam.
The Folower Market is very interesting, if you like tulips and other flowers.
And these old Canal Houses can be best seen from the tourist boats,
Have fun, B
